Dyslexia Assessments
Dyslexia assessments give a “diagnosis” of dyslexia and can be arranged for:
- Children (7 – 16)
- Students (16+)
- Adults
Dyslexia Assessments involve a series of diagnostic tests to determine whether an individual is dyslexic or has other specific learning difficulties.
Dyslexia Assessments look at:
- Phonological processing
- Working memory
- Visual and auditory processing
The results should be presented in an in-depth report specifying:
- Strengths and weaknesses
- Summary of recommendations
- Signposting to additional support services
The assessments should be carried out by a dyslexia trained teacher who is a fully qualified assessors registered with the Professional Association of Teachers of Students with Specific Learning Difficulties (PATOSS) or a registered Educational Psychologist.
Dyslexia Assessments are acceptable as evidence for:
- Access arrangements in exams (eg extra time, reader etc)
- Access to Work support when applying for jobs or in work
- Disabled Student Allowance in Higher Education
Dyslexia Assessments take up to 4 hours to complete.
Dyslexia Cornwall does not offer an assessment service. Specialists offering this service can be found through:
- Professional Association for Teachers and Assessors of Students with Specific Learning Difficulties (PATOSS)
- The British Psychological Society (BPS)
- Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC)
